Aprons with Heritage. Crafted with Purpose
At Identicol, we believe that what you wear while
creating—whether in the kitchen, studio, or garden—should carry meaning. Our
artisan aprons are more than protective layers; they’re cultural canvases
stitched with story, identity, and pride.
A Legacy in Every Thread
Our aprons are made using Shwe Shwe, a richly patterned
cotton textile with deep roots in Southern Africa. Originally introduced in the
1840s as indigo-dyed cloth gifted to King Moshoeshoe I of Lesotho, Shwe Shwe
has since become a symbol of heritage and resilience. Once a colonial import,
it was reclaimed and reimagined by Sotho, Xhosa, Zulu, Tswana, and Venda
communities—woven into ceremonies, rites of passage, and everyday life.
The Story
Each motif tells a story: circles for unity, triangles for
strength, and symmetry for balance. Wearing Shwe Shwe is a way of honouring
tradition while embracing modern creativity.
Crafted and Rooted in Africa
Our aprons are handmade in South Africa, by artisans
who respect the fabric’s origins and elevate its purpose. We source authentic
Shwe Shwe from South Africa and pair it with ethical craftsmanship to create
pieces that are durable, beautiful, and meaningful.
Whether you’re gifting a loved one or outfitting your own
creative space, our aprons invite you to wear heritage with pride.
